Biography of LaTrel Maloy
The life of LaTrel Maloy is a shining example for people who doubt the power of faith. Believe it or not, but a singer enjoying a life of fame and fortune and the perks which come with it chose to walk the path of God.
Child Prodigy from North Carolina
Maloy was born in North Carolina in a small town near Fort Bragg. He was a childhood prodigy and began performing at the age of 5, the same age as the Prince of Pop Michael Jackson. At that time, few would have doubted that the young kid would grow up to become a famous singer. His mother discovered his talent and was the initial guiding hand.
During his growing days, LaTrel became well known in his hometown and was popular at his school too. He was part of the school chorus when he stole the show in a talent show while in 6th grade. Influenced by Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, R. Kelly and many more, it was at this time that LaTrel fell in love with singing and realized music was his life.
Move to Tampa, Florida – LaTrel Fulfills His Dreams
As with most singers, success did not come easy. He was popular locally but had to relocate to Tampa, Florida to find what he was looking for: a record deal. David Gay, the CEO of Isa Bomb Records saw LaTrel and signed him up. In the early days, Maloy was a featured artist on other singers’ songs who were his label mates.
On stage, he became the opening act for a number of artists, including K-Ci, Jo Jo and David Hollister. LaTrel’s public and media appearance became more frequent and he also performed at several sold out shows across Tampa. It may seem to you as though life couldn’t be any better than it was for LaTrel at that time, but it wasn’t. This was when the inner conflict began.
The Transformation
The struggle and troubles post-success helped LaTrel find his true calling: voice of the Lord. He emerged from the dark times like a champion and transformed his image to a servant of the Word. Since then, LaTrel has exclusively been producing Christian music and a lot of his songs have become popular across the country. Soldier for the Lord, a single he released in 2010 deserves special mention.
In addition to his music, LaTrel also writes and ministers. He has won several Gospel music awards over the past three or four years and he is among the most well-known names on the Christian music circuit. His message now is to make the US a better place to live through the teachings of God. He is a crucial part of the movement Show another Way by Example (SAWBE) which advocates this message to people all over the country.
LaTrel is constantly touring different cities and making new music to praise the Lord. He found his happiness where few people do. Truly a remarkable transformation from a singer to God’s servant!
